Class Timeframe

• 4 weeks
• 3 hour class commitment per week (1 lecture, 2 working sessions)

Why do we need this class? What’s the current state of facilitation right now in Tech Fleet?

Today, Tech Fleet offers cross-functional agile team training for people who’ve never been in cross-functional agile roles before. This proves to be a unique programming challenge for the trainers of Tech Fleet. We’ve developed training-based deliverables workshops to model behavior and teach people how to perform cross-functional teamwork for the firs time, and these have really helped improve our program training outcomes. Tech Fleet trains agile coach trainees and other kinds of project trainees through workshops we run. The people running workshops are often trained in UX or product roles, but have varying levels of training in workshop facilitation. This leads to workshops that sometimes have lower quality outcomes with trainees. We would like to position workshop facilitators with success by training them on the tools and techniques of great workshop facilitation. We’d like to help them reflect and practice techniques, and avoid common mistakes.

Learning Outcomes

1. Distinguish the different types of facilitation (meeting, decision, workshop, etc.).
2. Understand the skills and practices required in expert workshop facilitation.
3. Learn the techniques for purposefully increasing participation during workshops.
4. Explore the common mistakes that happen while learning workshop facilitation.
5. Explore how to maximize workshop outcomes for people with different working styles and learning styles for fully inclusive environments during workshops.
6. Apply workshop facilitation techniques to UX and cross-functional workshops that teams perform based on templates that we provide at https://figma.com/@techfleet
7. Learn how to measure success as a workshop facilitator.
