Meeting Summary:

Ruminate Design Meeting (no client)

Attendance:  All of design + some shadowers

Date: 10/31/2023

📝Agenda:

  1. How to present to client
    1. Heidi wants us to talk more and does not want to be only person talking all the time; also difficult for her to keep convo w/ client AND check Slack
    2. Slack convo
      1. can continue using Slack as safe space for emotionally unfiltered responses (keeping it respectful still)
    3. We hesitate to talk due to clients’ rebuttals and going down messy rabbit holes
      1. help others in team by preparing them with talking script, how to reply to client rebuttals
    4. Rules for client presentations
      1. show 2 options only max
        1. come with a stance or recommendation
      2. don’t show things we don’t like
      3. state high level goal of what your design is achieving
        1. so every time they bring back to visuals, you bring it to the goal
      4. list out pros+cons
        1. data back up
      5. open up votes to everyone in meeting or entire ruminate team
        1. not voting as users, voting as advocates for users with user goals in mind
      6. stakeholders at end of the day gets the final say
      7. set due date for when we stop talking about certain topics
  2. Show + Tell of design work
    1. Sally - typography
      1. Heidi: stay away from ALL CAPS - reason why is feels like you’re shouting at someone and not good for readability
      2. Heidi provided the H1 or H2 labels that all of us can use, but we still do need to input the styles
    2. Nancy - radio, check box, attach document, dropdown, grid and spacing
      1. following best practices and material UI design system wherever possible while maintaining the spirit of what phase 3 has done that was good work
    3. Caroline - sandwich progress bar
      1. people preferred sandwich on top vs bottom
      2. Burcu didn’t want the heading of form to get lost due to progress bar being too big - e.g. dominos
      3. people preferred circle vs oval - due to convention
    4. Heidi - colors
      1. the blue on landing page - if we use it on forms - it looks more green blue and feels less like the blue print feel, but she played with another blue
      2. Komal wished it was more simple for forms - likes Heidi’s new blue color but curious if it will be harsh on the eyes - continuous reading and filling the forms
      3. Heidi will present things for voting:
        1. button
        2. style of forms for blue
        3. yellow on landing page - we already voted for the option of feedback having a rectangle background behind
    5. Burcu - input fields and general forms changes
      1. Nancy felt like convention is more showing when error occurs not when everything is correctly filled in
      2. what’s next part of form → feels like what is happening next page, not what’s happening all the way after app forms → can be placed after the forms have been filled
  3. Didn’t get to talk about:
    1. Komal’s button/nav
    2. demo - how we’ll present our stuff on Thurs
    3. sprint 3 what will be focusing on - talked during sprint planning meeting instead

📅Tentative completion dates:

Still trying to finish up end of Spring 2 design system/guides stuff, hopefully wrap up soon

✨ Takeaways/Actions:

  1. 15 min pre-client prep meetings going forward - Heidi? to send invites going forward
  2. have people put their names on talking points sticky notes - then they can prepare ahead of time
  3. Burcu/Heidi/Komal to rotate on being Slack watchers - watch for good points in Slack and bring up accordingly in live meeting
  4. Back to sticking to roles vs rotating: Sally - daily standup; Nancy - shadow notifications; Caroline - note taking (but can ask for help whenever)
  5. Set rules to follow for client interactions/presentations - see above
