Questions from Design:
- What motivates your child when they are discouraged in their learning?
- Can you or your child recall when they started to dislike (or find it hard) to do math?
- How is their current attitude about math?
- What have you heard them say about math?
- Where do you go when your child needs extra help in understanding a topic? (Example: We go to YouTube)
- What do you find challenging about math?
- Are there certain topics that are harder? (And vice versa: What do you find easy about math? Are there certain topics that are easier?)
- Does math language play a part in the child not understanding how to solve the problem? If so what do you think would be beneficial to help them understand the language?
- Do their IEP’s (or service plan private school) allow them to use tools on practice, quizzes, reviews, tests?
- What frustrations (if any) do you have as a parent when it comes to working with the teachers/staff when finding what works best for your child when learning math?
- Does your child care if they earn badges in game play (like IXL)? Is that rewarding for them?
- What programs/apps/games have become more popular over time? Ones that were from places like PBS or ones that were first getting buy-in from the classroom like IXL, Prodigy, etc?
- What role does color play in a child’s ability to learn math?
- What experience do your children have with alternate fonts? Are they successful learning tools/would they be beneficial or create more frustration? (the dot font)
- Would it be more useful to have an app that assists in teaching or is solely for practice? Or both?
