Our Goal: Emphasize user-centric milestones that demonstrate progress, enabling iterative learning and reinforcing the alignment between team efforts and product vision.
The Taino Language App is an open-source language learning application to help users learn a modern variant of the Taino language. Co-working with great sociolinguists from the Endangered Languages Project and a great advisor, this project is about preserving and revitalizing endangered/extinct languages. The Taino were the indigenous peoples on the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, the Bahamas, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Martinique. Sadly, most of the Taino were killed after contact with European colonizers (beginning with Christopher Columbus), and the Taino language became extinct. The loss of this culture and language has had a devastating impact.
