So far in this class, you have been taught concepts about low-level cognitive processes: attention, perception, and memory. You’ve also been taught about how to best design for these cognitive processes to create more self-evident interfaces that help people achieve goals. In this homework, you will apply your lessons to create an annotation auditing a user experience from the perspective of how successful it will aid in low-level cognitive processes.

Goals

  1. Choose any web or physical experience you’d like.
  2. Audit an existing user experience on the web from the perspective of low-level cognitive processes.
  3. Identify the effective and ineffective attributes of the experience you’ve chosen.
  4. Identify UX recommendations based on your audit that will help improve the UX based on low-level cognitive processes.
  5. Create the deliverable in Figjam with screenshots and notes associated with your thoughts about the interface just like we did in class during week 2.

Deliverables

  1. A Figjam (or equivalent) annotation with screenshots of the experience you’ve chosen.
  2. Identify the goal that the experience is trying to help a user achieve.
  3. Identify the use case scenarios you think are relevant to the experience.
  4. For each goal, add screenshots of each step in the sequence and associate a flow chart if necessary.
  5. Fill out the table of information with details about the problems you find and why they are problems.
  6. Add 5 to 10 annotation notes identifying your audit results.
  7. For each audit note, create one UX recommendation based on the lessons you’ve learned so far related to designing for low-level cognitive processes.

Audit Considerations

  1. How was the interface designed to help users achieve their goal? What sequences do they need to take? Which of the sequences are more or less self-evident in your opinion?
